Frequently Asked Questions

Educating our patients is one of the most important things we do. Find answers to our most common questions below — or call us anytime at (703) 688-2323.

We've compiled answers to the questions we hear most often from new and existing patients. Can't find what you're looking for? Our knowledgeable team is always just a phone call away.

General

Yes! At POSH Smiles, we're always thrilled to welcome new patients of all ages. Getting started is simple — call us at (703) 688-2323 or book online. During your first visit, we'll take the time to get to know you, discuss your dental goals, and perform a thorough examination. We accept most major PPO insurance plans and offer flexible payment options.

Your first visit will feel welcoming and unhurried. To prepare, we recommend gathering your previous dental records and x-rays, noting any medications and allergies, and arriving a few minutes early to complete paperwork. If you experience dental anxiety, let us know — we'll tailor your visit to ensure your comfort.

During the appointment, Dr. Baftechi will thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, bite, and jawbone, and take full-mouth x-rays. She'll share her findings with you, answer all your questions, and recommend a personalized treatment plan.

POSH Smiles is built around your comfort, care, and confidence. We combine advanced technology — including 3D CBCT cone beam imaging and laser dentistry — with a deeply personal approach. No two patients are alike, and we take the time to understand your goals and create a treatment plan tailored to your life. Our team is passionate about building long-lasting relationships where you feel like family, not just a patient.

Cosmetic Dentistry

POSH Smiles offers a full range of cosmetic treatments to enhance your smile's beauty and your confidence:

  • Composite Bonding — Tooth-colored resin repairs chips, cracks, or discoloration
  • Porcelain Veneers — Custom thin shells that conceal smile flaws for a stunning result
  • Invisalign® Clear Aligners — Discreetly straighten teeth without traditional braces
  • Teeth Whitening — In-office or take-home Zoom! whitening for a radiant smile
  • Aesthetic Crowns — High-quality restorations that blend seamlessly with natural teeth

Getting veneers at POSH Smiles typically involves two appointments spaced two to three weeks apart:

  • Consultation — Dr. Baftechi discusses your smile goals and evaluates your oral health
  • Tooth Prep — A thin layer of enamel is removed; digital impressions are taken
  • Temporaries — Temporary veneers protect your teeth while the lab crafts your finals
  • Final Placement — Custom veneers are checked for fit and permanently bonded

We work exclusively with top dental labs to ensure your veneers look completely natural and fit perfectly.

Yes — teeth whitening is safe when performed under professional supervision. At POSH Smiles, we use high-quality Zoom! whitening products that are effective and gentle. We take extra care to protect your gums and soft tissues, and we personalize the whitening strength to minimize sensitivity. Following our guidelines ensures safe, lasting results without damaging your enamel.

Dental Implants

Implant placement itself takes about one to two hours per implant. However, the full process — including healing and osseointegration (the implant fusing with the jawbone) — typically takes 3–6 months before your final crown is placed. The complete timeline depends on your individual healing and whether procedures like bone grafting are needed.

  • 3D Consultation & Planning — Precise evaluation using CBCT imaging
  • Extraction (if needed) — Damaged tooth removed and allowed to heal
  • Bone Grafting (if needed) — Jaw prepared to support the implant
  • Implant Placement — Titanium post placed into the jawbone
  • Osseointegration — 3–6 months of healing and fusion
  • Final Restoration — Custom crown placed atop the implant

Most healthy adults are excellent candidates. Ideal candidates have healthy gums, sufficient jawbone density, and no uncontrolled medical conditions. Key factors include:

  • Overall Health — Good general health; conditions like uncontrolled diabetes require special consideration
  • Gum Health — Active gum disease must be treated before implant placement
  • Bone Density — Adequate bone is needed; bone grafting can often address deficiencies
  • Non-Smoker — Smoking impairs healing; non-smokers have higher success rates

Even if you've experienced bone loss or have health concerns, Dr. Baftechi will evaluate your individual case and discuss all options with you.

Crowns & Bridges

Getting a crown or bridge at POSH Smiles is a straightforward, comfortable experience across two appointments:

  • Initial Consultation — Thorough exam and digital x-rays to diagnose the issue
  • Tooth Preparation — The tooth is shaped; for bridges, adjacent teeth are also prepared
  • Temporary Restoration — A temporary crown or bridge protects your teeth while the lab works
  • Custom Fabrication — We partner with top dental labs using precise digital impressions
  • Final Placement — Your permanent restoration is fitted and adjusted for perfect comfort

General & Preventive Dentistry

POSH Smiles offers comprehensive dental care under one roof, including cleanings and exams, tooth-colored fillings, crowns and bridges, dentures and partials, root canal therapy, tooth extractions, Invisalign, teeth whitening, veneers, dental implants, periodontal therapy, and emergency dentistry.

A strong at-home routine works hand-in-hand with your semi-annual visits:

  • Brush at least twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush
  • Floss once daily to remove plaque between teeth and along the gumline
  • Rinse with an antimicrobial mouthwash to reduce bacteria
  • Replace your toothbrush every 3–4 months
  • Limit sugar and stay hydrated throughout the day
  • Keep your biannual appointments — prevention is always better than treatment

Nearly half of US adults over 30 have some degree of gum disease, often without realizing it. Watch for these warning signs:

  • Bleeding while brushing or flossing
  • Red, swollen, or tender gums
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Loose or shifting teeth
  • Receding gums or exposed tooth roots
  • Pockets or spaces forming between teeth and gums

If you notice any of these signs, call POSH Smiles at (703) 688-2323 to schedule a cleaning and evaluation right away.

Invisalign® Clear Aligners

Invisalign® is a versatile treatment for mild to moderate alignment issues, including crowded teeth, gapped teeth, overbite, underbite, crossbite, and open bite. Treatment typically takes 12–18 months, and you should wear your aligners 20–22 hours per day for best results.

Dentures & Partials

Adjusting to dentures takes a little time and patience. Dr. Baftechi's tips:

  • Start Slowly — Wear your dentures a few hours at a time, gradually increasing wear time
  • Practice Speaking — Reading aloud or speaking in a mirror helps you adjust faster
  • Eat Soft Foods First — Start with scrambled eggs or mashed potatoes and introduce harder foods gradually
  • Be Patient — Adjustment takes time; most patients are fully comfortable within a few weeks

Remember — our team is just a phone call away at (703) 688-2323 if you have any concerns during the adjustment process.
